Wooden Dummy Form - Muk Yan Jong
The
wooden dummy is the, always available, never complaining, training
partner that allows the Wing Chun practitioner to hone and develop
their combinations, hand positions, movement patterns and alignment
in respect to a prospective opponent.
It
is not a substitute for a human partner and like a human training
partner should not be abused or the lessons that the dummy is trying
to teach will be missed.
Traditionally
the form has been referred to as having 108 movements and has been
changed a number of times in its history but Grand Master Yip Man
finally settled on 116 movements as being the minimum to cover all
of the principles and concepts which the form has to teach.
The
form is divided into 8 sections and introduces additional kicks
which are not contained in the boxing form.
