The Training System

Having spent 22 years in the military, covering the UK, Germany and the Middle East, I could make all sorts of claims about who I've trained in order to market myself and impress the uninitiated.

However, this type of marketing would be about me and my experience, not about you and your training.

The demands of modern western life doesn't leave masses of training time available to most working people, in truth most students who balance work, life and training have little capacity to learn more than one martial art to a high standard.

We do not ‘shoe-horn’ the student into the style but use it as the vehicle for the student to improve and refine their capabilities to their maximum individual advantage. We concentrate on you and tailor training to your individual body type and mental make-up to allow you to develop your wing chun as opposed to trying to be a copy of someone else.

To maximise the training benefits we guage the student's needs in a number of areas (some of which are listed below) which are a core requirement for any Martial Art and tailor the individual’s training to maximise and improve these core areas within their overall training plan.

  • Ability to relax, both mentally and physically
  • Mental and Physical Awareness
  • Level of personal Confidence
  • Basic control of their body mechanics
  • Ability to operate the body efficiently and effectively
  • Core strength, general fitness and structural conditioning
  • Physical and Mental co-ordination.

This approach achieves results in both martial arts training and additional benefits which extend into other areas of life.

The Training System in Somerset Wing Chun Kung Fu is focused on good teaching on the part of the Sifu, geared to the individual student, coupled with committment and hard work on the part of the student, to ensure the training we provide meets the your expectations and benefits and improves your capabilities.

The basic core syllabus is relatively standard and should be recognisable to any traditional Wing Chun practitioner from the main stream lineages.

What is different is the ego free, friendly environment that we provide which allows you relax both physically and mentally to maximise your learning potential.

In addition we use both ancient and modern mental an physical training methods from outside the Wing Chun system to enhance the mind-body connection, heighten awareness and increase touch sensitivity.

The Basic core training consists of:

  • 3 empty hand Boxing Forms
  • Wooden Dummy Form
  • 2 Weapon Forms
  • Chi Sau.

Plus many specific two person drills to help integrate the training into your natural body movement.
